DAY 3

We awoke this morning in Taos, New Mexico to 28* air. We left the motel around 9:00 a.m. with 40* temps, which was still quite cool on the bike. Unknown to any of us, we had an 11,000' pass to cross, which had just opened 3 weeks earlier. The road was dry, but there was snow piled everywhere, and lots of it. It also was VERY, VERY cold. I didn't take any pictures up there because I didn't want to stop, and wasn't sure my fingers would work anyway. Yes, I have heated gloves, but packed them away in my suitcase. I made a mental note to not do that again. I actually was leaning down and laying my thin gloved hands on the warm cylinder, which helped some. It was a very beautiful ride despite the cold air, and worth every minute of the slight discomfort.
We then rode into Arizona and Utah, riding through Monument Valley. This scenery is really breathtaking. The rocks rising up to the sky are indescribable in their beauty. We then rode into Gooseneck State Park. If you've never been, this is a must see. I've included several pictures taken in the park. By the time we arrived at our motel in Blanding, Utau, we had ridden almost 400 miles, and saw lots of beautiful country.
Since leaving home on Saturday morning we've ridden 1100 miles+, and ridden in 6 states.
Tomorrow (Tues.) we are riding the Arizona side of Monument Valley, then on to the Grand Canyon. Tomorrow night we will stay in Williams, Arizona.
Talk to you then.
Motor Mike

  1. We drove through Utah last summer and were stunned by the beauty of the canyons, not just the parks, Zion Arches and Canyonlands, but everywhere. And that was in the Honda Accord. Can't imagine the view and the feel on the bike. Good trip!
